Little IRRI in Texas

Ed, Grace, and I went to Texas last week to visit Ricetec - a company that breeds rice conventionally (i.e., non-GMO). We were glad to see Hank Beachell who is celebrating his 99th birthday in September! Hank was the rice breeder at the International Rice Research Institute when Ed and I were there in the '70s. We also saw two friends - Gene Sarreal and Vince Librojo, all IRRI alumni.

We also visited the Texan Perdons - Jun, There, and Aljeau (Andre and Terrence are in Austin while Lisette is in El Paso). Jun prepared baked ribs and bulalo for dinner - they were very good. Earlier, we went to Kimah on Galveston Bay. We had fresh seafood for lunch. I also got some fresh extra large shrimps that we brought back home.
